ADHD Isn’t Just for Kids — Many Adults Are Undiagnosed

Intro paragraph:
ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition affecting 3–4% of UK adults — many of whom remain undiagnosed until later in life. You might not realize it’s ADHD, but its effects are real.

Symptoms Checklist:

  • Trouble concentrating or staying on task
  • Chronic procrastination and disorganization
  • Restlessness and difficulty relaxing
  • Impulsive decisions or emotional outbursts
  • Missed deadlines, lost items, forgotten commitments
  • Low self-esteem or anxiety about underperformance

Why it matters:
ADHD can impact daily life in significant ways — from work performance to self-esteem, relationships to emotional wellbeing. Many adults report frequent job changes, difficulties in managing responsibilities like parenting or budgeting, and struggles in personal or professional relationships.

Understanding

ADHD Increases Risk of Substance and Behavioural Addictions

Adults with ADHD are more likely to struggle with:

Alcohol or drug misuse

Gambling or compulsive shopping

Emotional eating or excessive screen time

Why? Core ADHD traits like impulsivity, restlessness, and emotional dysregulation make it harder to resist short-term gratification — especially without treatment or coping strategies.
🎯 Identifying and treating ADHD early can prevent destructive cycles and promote long-term wellbeing.
